室蘭ゴルフ倶楽部は、名匠・井上誠一の設計による国内屈指の丘陵型ゴルフコースです。
全18ホールには適度なアップダウンがあり、急勾配の砲台型グリーンが特徴的です。1965年の開場以来、通称「白鳥コース」として数々のプレーヤーに愛され、2001年には日本女子オープンゴルフ選手権競技の開催地となり、各種オープン競技会やオフィシャル競技会も定期的に開催されています。
コース内は、柏の樹林帯で戦略的にセパレートがほどこされ、なかでも18番ホールでは、圧迫感のある樹林帯を回避しながら正確なショットを決めることがスコアメイクの決め手となっています。名物ホールのひとつである15番ホールは、室蘭岳を正面に望む美しい打ち下ろしのホールで、フェアウェイの中央を狙った豪快なショットを楽しめます。210ヤード付近にあるバンカー越えと、傾斜のきついグリーンは手前から手堅く決めることがポイントです。さらに、4番ホールは、風の影響を考慮した緻密な読みが要求されるショートホールで、グリーンは手前と両サイドのバンカーにがっちりガードされているため、高度なアプローチ技術が試されます。春から夏にかけては「山背風」と呼ばれる東風、秋には北西風の影響が強いため、弾道の高さを絶妙に調節する必要が出てきます。7番ホールは、ドラコン推奨のサービスホールで、比較的距離は短めですが、順目で早いグリーン奥からのパッティングを避け、確実なカップインを狙いたいところです。220ヤード20打席のドライビングレンジや、アプローチ練習場も併設されており、ラウンド前のウォームアップ練習に利用できます。
室蘭ゴルフ倶楽部は北海道室蘭市崎守町にあり、車で道央自動車道・千歳インターから約40分、JR東室蘭駅よりタクシーで約20分です。さらに、車を利用すれば、新千歳空港まで約70分で到着でき、登別温泉まで約40分、洞爺湖温泉まで約50分と近隣の観光地にも恵まれています。
