池の平ゴルフ場は、奈良県吉野郡下北山村の標高400mの高台に展開する「池の平公園」内にあり、1980年1月1日に開場した村営ゴルフ場です。
車でのアクセスは、三重県尾鷲市から国道42号線と国道309号線を経由し下北村方面へ約50分です。奈良県橿原市からであれば、国道169号線を南下し約2時間で到着可能です。
ゴルフ場内には総距離1,756ヤード、全9ホールのショートコースが充実しており、ドライバーが使える3ホールを含む本格的なレイアウトとなっています。なかでも、1番ホールは、左側にある林がOBで右手には池のハザードがあるトリッキーなホールで、難ホールのひとつとして知られています。
ゴルフ場内で最長のロングホールである2番ホールは、左ドッグレッグになっており、第1打目付近にある落とし穴を回避することがハイスコアを狙う秘訣です。9番ホールは、方向性さえ正しければ、思い切りの良いティーショットでワンオンし、バーディチャンスも狙えるホールです。
周囲には広い芝生地帯や神秘的で美しい明神池、整備された森林浴遊歩道があり、園内のロッジ風宿舎「池の平ハウス」や近隣の宿泊施設「やすらぎ&くすのき」が利用可能です。
宿泊施設内では、三重県の熊野や和歌山県の勝浦から仕入れた新鮮な海の幸に加え、自家製だしが評判の猪鍋料理や鴨鍋料理といった名物の鍋料理がいただけます。
